MSC Golfer of the Year
The Mid-South Conference (MSC) announced University of the Cumberlands’ (and Eagle Creek Country Club’s) Michael Burgan earned MSC Golfer of the Year for his performance over the three conference tournaments.
“Michael has developed into a great player, and he has done it by maturing as a person,” said Patriot Head Golf Coach Chris Kraftick. “I am so proud of him and what he has been able to accomplish. He is a team first guy, and a wonderful leader for our team. It says a lot about him when his teammates were more excited about this award then he was.”
Burgan was also named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character recipient. He earned the award — as voted on by the conference athletics director — for his civic and servant leadership within the campus and community.
Burgan was also a key contributor for the University of the Cumberlands Patriots golf team winning the 2009 Mid-South Conference Championship. The University of the Cumberlands eight stroke win completed the season-long competition for the Mid-South Conference’s automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships in May. The Patriots won the six-round competition over three tournaments with a final total of 1,786 to advance their play to the NAIA National Tournament on May 19-22nd in Silvis, IL.
