Brandon Brown Wins Pro-Am With Course Record 62

Brandon Brown shot a competitive course record 8 under par 62 to win the professional division of the 2008 Herman Norton Pro-Am.  Brown, from Shelbyville, plays on the NGA Hooters Professional Tour.  He finished sixth on Hooter’s money list in 2007.  Stever Landrum, golf pro at Meadowood Golf Course, finished second with a 65, that included a rare double eagle on the par 5 11th hole.  There was a three way tie for third in the professional competition, with Tyler Wilson, Brett Jones and David Shearer all at 66.

In the Pro-Am Team competition, pro David Shearer led his team (Eric Fulner, Marcus Camacho, Katie Harrison and Jerry McDonald) to a 16 under 124.  Shearer, a former NKU player now living in Glendale, Arizona, plays on the Gateway Tour.  On the second place team at 126 were pro Brandon Brown, Lowell Workman, Justin Blaze, Carl Wenderoth and Brandon Kramer.  On the third place team at 127 were pro Jason Fryia (from the Golf Exchange in Florence) Lindsey Bevill, Tyler Jones, Glenn Singleton and Bob Day.

In the pro-am tournament format, each pro, A and B player played their own ball, and the C & D players played a 2-person scramble.  Out of the four scores, the team played the best two scores on each hole.

Alicia Lawrence shot a 71-71 – 142 to win the 2008 Eagle Creek Women’s Club Championship, her fifth women’s club championship.

Carol Lowry (84-83 – 167) won the Women’s Senior Club Championship.  Ali Rich won the women’s first flight with a 91-84 – 175.

Jeremy Martin shot a 67-66 - 133 to win the 2008 Eagle Creek Country Club’s Men’s Championship.  Jeremy edged out defending champion (his dad) Todd Martin (68-67 – 135) and Michael Burgan (68-67 – 135).

Allen Brown won the Men’s Senior Championship with a 68-71 – 139 from the championship tees.

Katie Harrison shot an 84 to win the 2008 Eagle Creek Country Club Girls Junior Championship.  Katie was runner-up last year.

Zach Wright shot a 3 over par 73 to win the 2008 Eagle Creek Country Club Boys Junior Championship for the second straight year.  Zach’s score leaves him tied for 10th in the Men’s Club Champioinship going into Sunday’s final round.

Jacob Vrolijk won the Boys 13 & Under Junior Championship.





Lawrence Wins NKY Women’s Am

Eagle Creek’s Alicia Lawrence shot a final round 71 to win the 2008 Northern Kentucky Women’s Amateur at Pendleton Country Club.  Lawrence edged out the defending champion Emily Wolfe who shot a 72.  Lisa Houchen (76) finished third and Erin O’Connor (80) fourth.  This was Lawrence’s third NKY Women’s Amateur Championship, winning the title previously in 2005 and 2006.

Eagle Creek’s Ann Stanchina finished third in the Derby Flight.

Alicia Lawrence Advances to Finals in NKY Women’s Am

Eagle Creek’s Alicia Lawrence defeated Kristan Lottman 6&5 to advance to the championship finals of the 2008 Northern Kentucky Women’s Amateur at Pendleton Country Club.

Eagle Creek’s Ann Stanchina advanced to the finals in the Derby flight with a 1 up win over Jayne Lickert.  Carol Lowry was eliminated by Jennifer Rechtin 5&4 in the Bluegrass flight.  Debbie Mulford lost to Jane Taylor in the Mint Julep flight.

Lawrence, a two time Women’s Amateur Champion, will be joined in the finals by Emily Wolfe, Erin O’Connor and Lisa Houchen.  Lawrence is a former Northern Kentucky University golfer who played at Williamstown High School.  Defending champion Emily Wolfe currently plays for Western Kentucky University after a successful prep career at Boone County High.  O’Connor is a Gallatin County graduate formerly of Western Kentucky University who is attempting to qualify for the Duramed Futures Tour.  Houchen is a veteran of the NKWGA (and this year’s tournament director) who has finished second twice and qualified for the championship round numerous times.

The championship foursome will tee of at 9:20 am at Pendleton Country Club.  In the derby flight, Ann Stanchina is scheduled on the first tee at 8:20 am.

Northern Kentucky Men’s Amateur

In the 2008 Northern Kentucky Men’s Amateur at Triple Crown Country Club, Eagle Creek’s Joe Florence defeated Skip Goley 1 up to advance to the round of 8 in match play in the second flight. Florence will play on Thursday.

In the Championship Flight, Carl Joe Hays lost to Ryan Crowell 2 up.  In the first flight, Michael Camacho was defeated by Gary Scudder 5&4 and Zach Wright was eliminated by Don Niehaus 4&3.

Alicia Lawrence Medalist at NKY Women’s Am

Eagle Creek’s Alicia Lawrence’s two day total of 145 (71-74) earned her medalist honors at the 2008 Northern Kentucky Women’s Amateur being played this week at Pendleton Country Club.  On Wednesday, Lawrence, who played collegiately at Northern Kentucky University, will take on Kristin Lottman.  Lottman, a Notre Dame Academy graduate, has signed to play at University of Alabama-Birmingham.  The winner advances to the championship round of the tournament on Thursday.  Lawrence is a two-time Women’s Amateur Champion.

Northern Kentucky Men’s Amateur

On Tuesday, several Eagle Creek golfers advanced in match play at the 2008 Northern Kentucky Amateur being played this week at Triple Crown Country Club.

In the championship flight, Carl Joe Hays advanced with a 1 up victory over Tom Wimsatt.  On Monday, Hays qualified for the championship flight with a 73, the fourth best score in the qualifying round.  Hays will take on Ryan Crowell on Wednesday.

In the first flight, Zach Wright defeated Joey Whitford 2&1, and Michael Camacho topped Greg Malton 4&3.  Rob Flanigan lost his match 4&3 to Danny Lewis.  On Wednesday, Wright will play Don Niehaus and Camacho will take on Gary Scudder.

In the second flight, Joe Florence advanced with a 7&6 win over Randy Keegan.  Jerry Vaughn lost to Chris Judy 3&1.  Florence is matched against Skip Goley on Wednesday.
